The members of the Shivamogga District Ex-servicemen’s Association staged a protest in the city on Tuesday for fulfilment of their various demands.
Addressing the protest meet, P.V. Krishna Reddy, association president, said that the association, which was established in 1999, had launched various programmes for the welfare of ex-servicemen. Though it had requested the district administration several times to grant a site for construction of its own building, no action was taken, he said.
The Union government has sanctioned a hospital under the Employees Contributory Health Scheme for Shivamogga city for the benefit of ex-servicemen. The State government should grant land for setting up the hospital at the earliest, Mr. Reddy said. He urged the government to provide basic amenities for youth who participate in the recruitment rally conducted by the Indian Army at various district headquarters.
Exemption from payment of property tax for ex-servicemen residing in all urban local body and gram panchayat limits in the State, and clearance of pending files related to allotment of agricultural land for ex-servicemen, were other demands made.
