District Judge and Chairman of Industrial Tribunal Shivaji Ananth Nalawade has said that it was necessary for citizens to have a basic understanding of the Constitution considered to be one among the best in the world.
He was speaking at the Constitution Day programme organised jointly by the Taluk Legal Services Committee, the Department of Prosecution, the Hubballi Bar Association and the Department of Information and Public Relations after inaugurating it at Vakilara Bhavan here on Monday. He also stressed the need for organising awareness programmes on the Constitution during the Legal Services Day in the taluk level. Mr. Nalawade said that the Constitution was brought into practice on January 26, 1950 after it was first approved on November 26, 1949. Earlier, November 26 was being observed as National Law Day and from 2015, it is being observed as Constitution Day, he said.
Fifth Additional District and Sessions Judge Kiran Gangannavar said that preserving the values enshrined in the Constitution was the duty of every citizen.
First Additional District and Sessions Judge K.N. Gangadhar said that strict adherence to law would bring about progress and understanding of law should begin at home.
Resource persons B.D. Hegde and Vishwanath Bichagatti spoke. District Judge Sumangala S. Basavannur, Public Prosecutor D.A. Bandekar and Saroja Hosamani and others were present. Senior Principal Civil Judge and president of Taluk Legal Services Committee Venkatesh R. Hulgi made the introductory remarks and welcomed the gathering. President of Hubballi Bar Association Ashok Baligar presided over the function.
