Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya has said that ESIC would run the ESIC Medical College in Kalaburagi if the State government did not come forward to run it.
Addressing a press conference here on Saturday before inspecting the facilities available at the ESIC Medical Education Complex in Kalaburagi, Mr. Dattatreya said that a final decision on starting other colleges and institutes would be taken by this month after his return from Geneva attending the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Conference scheduled to be held from June 10 to 12.
Mr. Dattatreya said that he would also hold discussions with the State government on the fate of the MoU allowing use of the beds in the Government General Hospital after the decision of the government to establish its own Government Medical College using the available beds in the government general hospital and getting a nod from the MCI to start the admission this year. ESIC Medical College in Kalaburagi is yet to get the MCI nod to start the admission process for the ensuing academic year. The issue has become further complicated with the government deciding to use the government hospital beds for its own government medical college. However, the Minister was confident of overcoming all the hurdles faced by the ESIC Medical College in Kalaburagi.
