Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has directed officials to crack down on the siphoning off of water and ensure that there was no drinking water scarcity in either the urban or rural areas of the district.
At a meeting with senior district-level officials here on Saturday, Mr. Siddaramaiah drew attention to the drinking water scarcity in parts of Mysuru, though there was adequate storage in the reservoir. “Officials should not succumb to pressure from any quarter and crack down on illegal siphoning off of water,” he added.
He said parts of the rural hinterland had received rains in recent days but it did not mean that drinking water scarcity had been resolved. “Identify specific areas plagued by the problem and solve it,” said the Chief Minister.

The State government released Rs.100 crore to Mysuru twice and all the infrastructure works should be completed within the stipulated deadline. The pending works, which were yet to be taken up, should also be initiated and completed at the earliest, said the Chief Minister. However, it was equally important to ensure quality of the works completed, he added.
The Mysuru City Corporation was advised to make relentless efforts to recover property tax and augment its resources and not be dependent on Government grants for all the works.
Taking exception to the delay in completion of rural roads, the Chief Minister said though Rs. 53 crore was released towards their repair, the works had not been taken up. “I want the works to be completed in three months, failing which the officials concerned will be held responsible,” said Mr. Siddaramaiah.
District in-charge Minister V. Srinivas Prasad, Deputy Commissioner C. Shikha, MUDA Commissioner Palaiah, Mysuru Zilla Panchayat CEO Gopal, Commissioner of Police B. Dayananda, and Superintendent of Police Abhinav Khare were among those present.
