Elephants disrupt traffic in Sakleshpur

Traffic on the State Highway 112 near Halehonkaravalli in Sakleshpur taluk was disrupted on Saturday after two elephants obstructed vehicle movement.

Several vehicles had to reverse to avoid the pachyderms. The elephants ran for about 2 km on the highway, before it left the road, and entered a coffee estate.

More than 50 elephants have been roaming in different places of Alur and Sakleshpur taluks.

H.K. Kumaraswamy, JD(S) State president and MLA for Sakleshpur, on Saturday told presspersons that all the elephants should be captured and relocated.

“The government is planning to install railway barricades to avoid movement of the elephants,” he said.
