The movement of a herd of wild elephants in Togarsi Gram Panchayat limits in Shikaripur taluk has triggered panic among residents there. They were sighted on a plantation on the outskirts of Tandagunda village on Saturday. On Sunday, they had moved to Harigi village via Balligavi and Kodihalli.

The herd comprising one male, one female and a calf have come from the forest near Dandeli in Uttara Kannada district. The officials of the Forest and Police Departments have maintained a vigil on the movement of the elephants and are making efforts to drive them back to the forest. Four mahouts from Sakrebailu elephant camp near here have also arrived in Togarsi to track the movement of the elephants.

In wake of the situation, residents of the villages in the vicinity have been asked not to venture in to their lands and to avoid roaming at night.
