The electric contractors in Davangere took out a procession and staged a dharna outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Friday over various demands including priority to local contractors while allotting works by BESCOM.
They said that there are more than 500 electric contractors in the district. More than 5,000 labours depend on these contractors to earn their livelihood.
But the officials are violating norms while allotting works to contractors.
Preference is being given to selected contractors, they said.
The State government should immediately instruct the authorities concerned to stop inviting tenders from their divisional offices and allot works directly to small contractors.
We will intensify the agitation if the government fails to address the issue as early as possible, they said.
