Mulbagal police on Monday arrested eight people for their alleged involvement in assault on a group of youths belonging to another community on Sunday.
A group comprising about 20 members attacked the youths who visited Anjanadri betta near Mulbagal after attending a relative’s marriage in the town.
As many as ten youths of Kondenahalli village who came to attend the marriage climbed the hills and they were attacked while on their way back to the town. Six were injured and they were treated at the Government hospital.
Police gave the name of the injured as Baba, Mehboob Pasha, Yarab, Syed Ali, Wasim and Irfan.
The attack triggered tension in Mulbagal town on Sunday night. Hundreds of people gathered demanding arrest of those involved in the incident.
DySP Umesh said that eight among the accused were arrested and the situation is peaceful.
Tight security arrangements were made to avoid any untoward incidents in the town.
