The operation to capture elephants is expected to resume on Saturday after the three tamed elephants return to the camp from Mathigodu in Nagarahole National Park.
Three elephants left to Mathigodu along with the tusker, which was captured on Tuesday evening in Hampapura forests.
The elephants are expected to return to the temporary camp set up near Bharathur in Alur taluk on Friday.
The Forest Department has clearance from the Karnataka High Court to capture 25 wild elephants.
So far, five tuskers were caught and shifted to Mathigodu.
“The task is to capture 12 tuskers and 13 female elephants. We plan to capture the tuskers first. We still have to capture seven tuskers and 13 female elephants,” Devaraj, Range Forest Officer, said on Thursday.
Tough timeThe forest staff had a tough time capturing a tusker on Tuesday.
As the foresters were tracking the tusker, another herd of elephants came close to the spot.
The tamed elephants were disturbed.
Senior officers were relieved when the herd dispersed after the staff opened fire in the air and burst crackers.
