Efforts still on to get IIT, Central varsity for Hassan: Deve Gowda

H.D. Deve Gowda, Hassan MP, on Monday said that his efforts to set up an Indian Institute of Technology and Central University in Hassan were still on. He expressed confidence that he would soon succeed in his efforts.

Inaugurating an auditorium on the Government Engineering College premises, Mr. Gowda said, “We had made all efforts to get an IIT sanctioned and 1,000 acres of land was earmarked for the project. But now, it has come to my notice that efforts are on to divert the land for some other projects. I appeal to the local elected representatives to protect the land as the chances of an IIT being established are bright,” and added that the results of the Lok Sabha elections would help him get pending proposals sanctioned.

Mr. Gowda was scheduled to interact with students of the engineering college. However, he cancelled it stating that he had to rush back to Bangalore for an important meeting. However, he promised the students that he would interact with them after the Lok Sabha polls. “Irrespective of the poll results, I will interact with you,” he said.

The former Minister H.D. Revanna announced that the State government had sanctioned one evening engineering college and one evening polytechnic for Hassan. “The government has sanctioned these colleges from the next academic year. Hassan has good educational institutions in all streams and the IIT and Central University will also be sanctioned for Hassan in the coming years,” he said.

The auditorium inaugurated by Mr. Gowda has at a cost of Rs. 20 lakh.

Legislators Patel Shivaram and H.S. Prakash and Karisiddappa and principal of the college were present.
