Members of the Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (district unit) took out a procession and a staged dharna outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Wednesday. They demanded a thorough inquiry into the alleged misappropriation of funds into purchase of bed and pillows for government hostels by the Department of Social Welfare in the State.

Addressing agitators, the district convener of the samiti alleged that the concerned authorities have violated norms while purchasing the material, causing Rs. 19 crore loss to the State exchequer.

Till the inquiry is conducted, the Chief Minister should suspend Social Welfare Department Secretary and Commissioner and initiate action against them, if they are found guilty.

The agitators also demanded that all backlog posts in government departments should be filled immediately.

They submitted a memorandum in this regard to Deputy Commissioner S.T. Anjan Kumar.
