The city police will not fly unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) that hovered over the crowds during the Dasara procession in the last two years.
City Police Commissioner B. Dayananda said the police had dropped the idea of flying drones for surveillance this year in view of the guidelines from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
The drones, which are equipped with high resolution cameras, transmit stunning images and videos from heights up to 1,000 ft.
Live images
The live images were monitored by a team that includes the police as well as technical personnel.
Vinay Kumar, proprietor of Visoft Media, which had flown two UAVs last year for the police and television channels, said they were awaiting permission from the police to do it this year.
He claimed that the DGCA guidelines, which were issued in May 2015, barred flying of remote controlled aerial vehicles up to 1.5 miles from the Air Traffic Control of an airport.
Video feed
“We flew the drone at Manekshaw Parade grounds in Bengaluru during the Independence Day celebrations this year as well as during the recent Karnataka Premier League match in Mysuru,” he said.
Several television channels, which are keen to provide live video feed of the Dasara procession, the crowds and the terrain of Mysuru from the UAVs, had approached the company for the visuals from the drones, he added.
The company representatives are scheduled to meet the City Police Commissioner on Friday.
