Drive to popularise Gandhi’s dream schemes in Mandya, Ramanagaram

The Department of Information and Public Relations has launched special programmes to popularise the dream programmes of Mahatma Gandhi in rural areas.

A ‘Kala jatha’ (cultural rally) has been launched to publicise them in 114 villages in Ramanagaram district, while similar programmes will be held in around 100 villages in Mandya district.

The department will highlight the ideals of Gandhiji in all the four taluks of Ramanagaram through art and cultural shows till October 17. It has arranged four specially-designed/decorated vehicles for the purpose, sources at the department told The Hindu .

Meanwhile, the department launched its ambitious ‘Gandhi Kanasu-Karnatakadalli Nanasu’ in Mandya on Monday. Komala Swamy, president of Mandya Zilla Panchayat, inaugurated the programme outside the ZP office.Some selected artists will visit the identified villages in all the seven taluks to explain how Gandhiji’s dreams have been realised in the State. The department will also screen a documentary on Gandhiji till October 20, sources said.

The volunteers will create awareness on the implementation of various schemes, including drinking water, health and hygiene, total sanitation, Rajiv Gandhi Yuva Chaitanya Yojana, women empowerment, skill development, construction of check-dams, rejuvenation of borewells and the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act.

Booklets, pamphlets and other publicity material will be distributed among rural people during the campaign.

ZP vice-president Gowramma, standing committee president V. Manchegowda, Divyashree and Manjula Nagaraju, members Basavaraju, Suresh Kanti, Shivanna and others were present.
