Drive to green barren lands

As part of ‘Vana Mahotsav’ , students of the National Service Scheme (NSS) at the Government First Grade College in Dudda village planted saplings on barren lands at Beechanahalli in the taluk on Sunday.

The NSS members planted a good number of saplings in pits on the outskirts of the village. Mandya Zilla Panchayat president S. Shankaregowda inaugurated the drive and spoke about the importance of growing trees.

The students explained the ill-effects of using polythene bags and urged people to use bags made of biodegradable materials.

Bags distributed

K.T. Hanumanthu of Krishik Lions, M. Yogesh of Parisara Trust and others distributed bags made of biodegradable materials to students on the occasion.

The NSS unit, Parisara Rural Development Society and Krishik Lions had organised the programme.
