Many young voters in the State have not enrolled themselves in the electoral roll, the final draft of which was released on Wednesday.
As against the target of enrolling nearly 15 lakh young voters, the final list has just 7.12 lakh young voters.
Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer Sanjiv Kumar also expressed his disappointment over the number of new voters enrolled in the summary revision.
“A large number of young voters have not registered. We had expected it to touch 15 lakh. During the last revision, about 15 lakh youth had enrolled,” he told presspersons here on Wednesday. He said that there is more time for them to enrol themselves in the list.
Meanwhile, the the Election Commission on Wednesday released the final publication of the electoral roll with a total of 5.03 crore voters, including 2.48 crore women.
With the Commission taking up the cleaning-up exercise for removing duplicates, dead voters, and those who shifted, the final list has nearly 4 lakh less voters than the final voters list of May 2018 when the Assembly elections were held.
As many as 7.52 lakh names in the voters list have been deleted.
“The names have not been summarily deleted and the due process has been followed before the deletion,” he added.
Of the 7.59 lakh applications received for deletion, 7.52 lakh have been approved.
The software used to identify duplicates found 10.41 lakh names that were demographically similar entries out of which the genuine cases of duplicate names had been removed. Of the 7.52 lakh deletions, 80,000 were of those having names in more than one place.
