Raichur district, which was badly hit by drought in the last couple of months, received good rainfall on Sunday night and in the early hours on Monday.

The rainfall that began late evening on Sunday continued until the early hours of Monday.

The highest rainfall was recorded at Pamanakallur in Manvi taluk with 50 mm, followed by Manvi (48 mm), Guragunta (45 mm), Kurdi (44 mm), Raichur (44 mm), Hirekotnekal (42 mm), Sirwara (42 mm), Kallur, Mallat and Maski (39 mm each), Chandrabanda (36 mm) and Devasugur (35 mm).

Many low-lying areas in urban centres, including Raichur city, were inundated for hours. In Arab Mohalla and Haji Colony in Raichur city, houses were flooded. Sewage from roadside drains overflowed on the roads.

The fodder that the district administration purchased at Rs. 6,000 a tonne for distributing among farmers at subsidised rates was partially destroyed in the rains.

“The rains are of no use for kharif crops as it has come too late. It will be helpful to rabi crops including red gram, sunflower, and white jowar,” Lakshmangowda, a farmer from Kadagamdoddi village and a leader of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha, said.
