‘Disgruntled leaders in otherparties approaching BJP’

September 12, 2018 01:00 am | Updated 01:00 am IST - KALABURAGI

Union Minister of State for Drinking Water and Sanitation and BJP leader Ramesh Jigajinagi has said that his party was not making any attempt to lure any leaders from any party. “Rather, some disgruntled leaders from other parties are themselves approaching us,” he said.

“We cannot say no if somebody from some party approaches us with a desire to joining our party. We are open to accepting them,” he said in response to questions from presspersons on the efforts being made to destabilise the Congress-Janata Dal(S) coalition government in the State.

Harsh drought

“The people are reeling under a harsh drought. They are facing acute drinking water and fodder crisis. Yet, nobody in the State government is concerned about it. Both the Congress and the Janata Dal(S) leaders are busy in strengthening their positions in the coalition government,” he told media representatives here on Tuesday.

Mr. Jigajinagi said that his government has set a target of providing drinking water through pipelines to 90 % of the villages in the country by 2022 and making the country open defecation-free by October 2, 2019.

“We have built 8.40 crore individual toilets after we launched the Swachh Bharat Mission and declared 4.41 lakh villages open defecation-free. Our aim is to make the entire country open defecation-free by October 2, 2019,” he said.
