Walls between people

Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim had called a press conference at 5 p.m. before the gram panchayat polls in his office the other day. Even as reporters arrived at the venue, DC’s Court Hall, at the right time, there was no sign of the DC. Running against the evening deadlines, they sent word through his personal assistant. Mr. Ibrahim finally arrived at 5.25 pm along with Additional DC Sadashiva Prabhu. Mr. Prabhu said that they were not just regretting the delay, but apologising for the same, a rare gesture. Mr. Ibrahim quipped, “I didn’t know you had already assembled; I was just on the other side of the wall.”

He said, she said

Politicians always like to give one-liners or make a biting remark about their rivals. The remarks are meant not just to catch attention, but sometimes are loaded with sarcasm. A case in point is a press conference organised by the BJP MP Shobha Karandlaje in Udupi a few days ago. The District in-charge Minister and Congress leader Vinay Kumar Sorake had criticised Ms. Karandlaje in his press conference. Ms. Karandlaje replied to all his allegations and also criticised Mr. Sorake. At the end of the conference, Ms. Karandlaje said, “I am giving these statements because I want Mr. Sorake to succeed as a Minister. Because he belongs to my home-town Puttur” to a burst of laughter. Mr. Sorake's reply is awaited.
