The State government appears to have decided to go ahead with the plans to set up the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Dharwad.
It has issued orders appointing the Dharwad Deputy Commissioner as the nodal officer for IIT-related works. A letter dated October 28, written by Y. Raju, Personal Secretary to the Chief Secretary, Government of Karnataka; to the Director of IIT-Bombay made note of the appointment.
The letter has further indicated the Chief Secretary’s willingness to meet officials of IIT Bombay.
Deputy Commissioner of Dharwad P. Rajendra Cholan said he has received intimation about being named nodal officer but he added that he was not aware of what role he had to play. There was no further communication regarding setting up of the transit campus on the Water and Land Management Institute premises here, he said.
Department of Higher Education Principal Secretary said IIT Bombay would be the mentor for the IIT to be set up in the State.
