‘Deve Gowda opposed crop loan scheme'

February 20, 2012 09:10 am | Updated 09:10 am IST - HUBLI:

The former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa has said that Janata Dal (Secular) national president H.D. Deve Gowda had vehemently opposed the move to provide crop loan at 4 per cent interest when the JD(S)-BJP combine was in power.

Mr. Yeddyurappa, who was in Hubli on Sunday to participate in the State-level Banjara convention, told presspersons at the Hubli airport that people should decide who was “anti-farmer” based on their actions when they were in power.

Referring to comments on his agriculture budget made by leaders of the Opposition parties, especially Janata Dal (Secular), Mr. Yeddyurappa said he had withstood Mr. Deve Gowda's opposition to implement the crop loan scheme.

Funds

On funds sanctioned for promotion of organic farming in the State, Mr. Yeddyurappa said whatever funds were allocated for the purpose had been utilised effectively.

Mr. Yeddyurappa declined to make any comments on the State Budge and the Cabinet expansion by saying that the issues were left to the Chief Minister's discretion.

To a query, he said there was a need for exhibiting the “party's strength” in the State especially in the wake of the recent comments by JD(S) leaders.
