The former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) president, H.D. Deve Gowda, has blamed the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre for failing to act against the BJP Government in Karnataka, led by Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, despite Governor H.R. Bhardwaj sending three reports against the government and the Supreme Court indicting the Chief Minister in the MLAs' disqualification case.
‘The reason'
“Perhaps the Congress in Delhi needed the support of the BJP to run the government smoothly for another three years and that could be the reason for them to reject the Governor's recommendation for keeping the Karnataka Assembly under suspended animation,” felt Mr. Deve Gowda. He was talking to journalists here on Wednesday.
Winter session
To buttress his opinion about the Congress, he recalled the complete wash out of the winter session of Parliament last year when the BJP demanded the setting up of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the 2G spectrum allocation issue during the UPA regime.
He hinted that the Left parties would have supported the Manmohan Singh Government in the Rajya Sabha if it had imposed President's Rule in Karnataka going by the recommendations of Mr. Bhardwaj.
JD(S) boycott
Mr. Deve Gowda announced that the JD(S) would boycott the short session of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly beginning on Thursday protesting the refusal of Mr. Yeddyurappa and Assembly Speaker K.G. Bopaiah to quit from their posts even after the Supreme Court rapped them for their conduct in the issue involving the disqualification of 11 BJP MLAs and 5 independents from the legislature.
His party would wait for the Congress's Karnataka unit's next move to chalk out the future strategy to dethrone the Yeddyurappa government, he said.
