Derecognition of APSC draws flak

June 01, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:54 am IST - HUBBALLI:

The All India Democratic Students Organisation (AIDSO) has condemned the decision of the IIT-Madras to derecognise the Ambedkar Periyar Study Circle (APSC).

In a release issued here on behalf of the AIDSO district committee, Sharanu Gonavar has said that AIDSO terms the decision as a big blow to freedom of expression.

The APSC was set up with an objective of providing a platform for students to hold discussions on important national issues and policy decisions in a democratic set up.

‘Instead of allowing open discussions and criticism on important issues, the Modi government is trying to create a suffocating atmosphere,” the release said.
