Demand to oust Suman Hegde from SWC

Akhila Bharatha Janawadi Mahila Sanghatane and Prajna Kanunu Salaha Samiti has demanded that the State government should remove Suman Hegde as a member of the State Women’s Commission (SWC) for defending chief of Ramachandrapura Mutt, Raghaveshwara Swami, who is facing charges of rape.

Vice-president of the Mahila Sanghatane K. Neela and president of the samiti Meenakshi Bali, in a statement in Kalaburagi city on Monday, also criticised the former Chairperson of the State Women’s commission and senior Advocate Pramila Nesargi for making wild charges about women organisations fighting against the incidents of attack on women and rape.

The statement said that during a seminar on ‘Naari Suraksha Samiti Samvada’ in Bengaluru on September 4, Ms. Hegde had said that false cases were being filed against Raghaveshwara Swami.

They said that such statements coming from a member of the women’s commission would dissuade the affected women from filing complaints against the oppressors before the commission.
