Demand for treated sewage water rises

June 11, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - BALLARI:

The demand for treated sewage water by some small industries in and around Ballari has been on the rise. This was evident when three more industrial units had applied for allotment of water from the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP). The general body of the Ballari City Corporation, which met here on Wednesday, unanimously gave its approval.

Of the total 45 million litres per day (MLD) of treated sewage water available at the two plants – Dr. Rajkumar Road and at Cowl Bazar – the corporation had already allotted 9 MLD to two industries — Janaki Steels, which has already been drawing water, and SSC Steels in Sandur taluk, yet to build infrastructure to draw the water.

On Wednesday, OPG Power Generators, Tungabhadra Mineral and Jayaraj Ispat got approval to draw 2, 1.5 and 2 MLD respectively from the two STPs.
