Two men who reportedly consumed native medicine for de-addiction have died at Nagavara village under Nangli police limits in Mulbagal taluk. The police gave the names of the deceased as Shankarappa (44) and Venkatachalapathy (55).

Both the men were addicted for alcohol for a long time and their relatives reportedly counselled them that native medicine will bring them out of the habit. Shankarappa and Venkatachalapathy visited Kuppavaripalli village in Srinivasapur taluk on Saturday last to meet a native docto and consumed some medicine given by him. They returned to Nagavara on the same day.

However, both of them developed sudden illness on Sunday evening and died. While Shankarappa died at his residence, Venkatachalapathy died on the way to hospital.

Two cases have been registered following separate complaints lodged by Shankarappa’s wife Sujathamma and Venkatachalapathy’s son Bharat, Nangli police told The Hindu on Monday. No arrests have been made yet in the case/ey said.
