A 56-year-old havildar attached to the District Armed Reserve Police shot himself with his service rifle while on duty on Friday.
He was on guard at the armoury on the NCC Karnataka Battalion premises at the time. The police said the incident appeared to be a case of suicide and investigations are on. He is survived by wife, two sons and two daughters.
According to the police and personnel at the NCC office, it was noon when they heard a gunshot from inside the armoury. The police were immediately informed and Deputy Commissioner of Police Anupam Agarwal and officials from the A.P.M.C. Police rushed to the spot.
