Members of the district unit of the Government Hostel and Residential School Employees Union, affiliated to the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), staged a protest outside the zilla panchayat office here on Thursday, demanding payment of pending wages for the daily wage workers employed in government hostels in the district.

Union district president Bheemshetty Yempalli, in a memorandum addressed to the Chief Executive Officer of the zilla panchayat, said the daily wage employees in various Backward Class and Minorities hostels had not been paid the wages for the last four months.

He demanded reinstating of five contract workers employed at government hostels in Chittapur taluk in Kalaburagi district who had been removed from their jobs recently for demanding the pending payments.
