Dacoits strike at house,take away jewellery, cash

A gang of five or six persons took away jewellery worth nearly Rs. 9 lakh and cash from a house here in the early hours Monday.

According to the police, the gang members, who were speaking in Hindi and Marathi, broke open the front door of the house that belonged to Satish Pratap Nandurkar in Vrindavan Nagar on Kanbargi Road in the Malmaruti Police Station limits at about 3 a.m.

They threatened the family members with iron rods asking them not to raise an alarm.

They tied up all the family members before taking away gold ornaments worth Rs. 7.45 lakh, silver ornaments worth Rs. 61,250 and Rs. 86,000 in cash.

Senior police officials inspected the house.

Three special investigation teams have been set up to apprehend the dacoits, the police said.

Theft

In a case of theft, valuables worth about Rs. 5000 were found stolen from the safe of Sri Veerabhadraswamy Temple located on the district police headquarters premises on Monday. Market Police have registered a case. Investigation is on.
