Cultural events planned every day

Hampi World Heritage Area Management Authority is planning to organise cultural events in Hampi every day by providing artistes, both domestic and foreign, a platform to exhibit their talent.

“As an added attraction to tourists, we have thought of making use of the existing stage near the Yeduru Basava Mantapa, opposite Virupaksha temple, for cultural events,” Pavankumar Malpati, Assistant Commissioner of Hosapete and Commissioner of the authority, told The Hindu .

The proposal was likely to come through soon, he said, and made it clear that the authority would not be giving honorarium to such artistes. The authority would provide only the basic infrastructure — stage, sound system and lighting. Interested local artistes and also artistes among tourists, including foreigners, could give performances only in classical, semi-classical and folk forms of arts, he said. Such artistes have to enrol their names with the authority, and permission would be given to them after scrutiny of their details, Mr. Malpati said.
