Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Karnataka H.M. Maheshwaraiah has said that the university would soon initiate the process to appoint around 45 to 50 permanent faculty members.

Addressing presspersons here on Sunday, Prof. Maheshwaraiah said the fledgling university, which already had its own campus, was in need of permanent faculty members. “The first phase of recruitment was held for 49 posts, but some of the selected candidates did not join the services.

The university needs to conduct recruitment for posts in various other departments also,” he said.

The Vice-Chancellor said the university had the necessary clearance to go ahead with the recruitment and it would be initiated soon.

He said that in order to maintain good quality of the education, higher remuneration was offered to attract talented teachers even for temporary appointments.

He said several of the IIT alumni were presently working at the university on a temporary basis at a remuneration of up to Rs. 45,000.

Replying to a query, Prof. Maheshwaraiah said that as the university’s full-time Vice-Chancellor, he has set a goal to get the total strength of the university from the present 1,300 to 8,000 in five years.

More courses

To a query, he said the university had plans to start more courses and community colleges in the coming years, but the initial focus would be on further improving the facilities at the present campus.

“We need to get buildings for 21 schools proposed to be set up on the campus, more hostels for the students so that the students would not have to commute from Kalaburagi. Steps are being taken to expedite the work,” he said. Controller of Examinations Prof. Basavaraj Donur was present.
