CRS gives nod for metro operations

The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) has given the nod for commercial operations on Reach 1 of Namma Metro, pending some minor works.

The Urban Development Ministry has sought to know if Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is available to inaugurate the service on September 26.

Union Minister of State for Railways K.H. Muniyappa told The Hindu here on Tuesday that the railway part of the work had been completed and the CRS had given approval pending some minor works to be carried out by Namma Metro authorities. “From our side everything is completed. Some minor works have to be carried out by Namma Metro authorities, but the inauguration can go on,” he said.

The Urban Development Ministry had written to the Prime Minister's Office to find out if Dr. Singh would be available for the inauguration of Namma Metro on September 26, Mr. Muniyappa added.

The second phase of Namma Metro work will be taken up at a cost of Rs. 14,774 crore.
