After the departure of personnel from most government agencies engaged in rescue operations in Kodagu, one team of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has reached Madikeri to assist the district administration in search operations.

A 30-member team of CRPF, which reached Kodagu on Monday night, is assisting about 300 personnel from Fire and Emergency Services, Civil Defence, Home Guards and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) in the operations. Also, a team from Border Road Organisation reached Kodagu to assess the damage to roads.

The team, led by R.S. Rao, is interacting with Deputy Commissioner P.I. Srividya and engineers of various departments on repair of roads and restoration of the damaged infrastructure.

Situationbetter

Relief Commissioner Gangaram Baderia said the situation had improved considerably in Kodagu, but the district experienced moderate rainfall on Tuesday. The number of relief centres had been reduced and the number of people in relief camps had come down to 2,630.

Meanwhile, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has started issuing free printouts of Aadhaar numbers to people who had lost their cards.

Duplicate documents

The government will set up Common Service Centres, which will act as a Single Window System to issue duplicate certificates, Identity Cards and documents to people who had lost them during the rains and landslips.

The Common Service Centres will comprise officers from Revenue, Civil Supplies, Banks, Transport, Education and other departments to issue the documents.
