The Fast Track Court at Bhadravati hearing a case filed against police officer Arjuman Banu on charge of misusing income certificate, has expressed displeasure over her failure to turn up for the hearing.

Earlier, the Bhadravati police had registered a case against Ms. Banu for allegedly securing an income certificate for her daughter Safa Khan from Bhadravati tahshildar by furnishing false information that she was a homemaker and by mentioning that the annual income of their family was less than Rs. 17,000. The police had alleged that by producing this income certificate, her daughter, who is pursuing professional education, had obtained scholarship and incentives from the government.

The police had registered cases under column 177, 181, 417 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code and under column 5(A) and 6(A) of the Scheduled Caste,

Scheduled Tribe and Other Backward Classes Reservation Act against Ms. Banu, her daughter and her husband Khader Khan.

Ms. Banu has been working as Circle Inspector at Davangere. The Court though granted bail for her in the case, it had also ordered her to be present in person for the hearings. Her husband had attended the hearing on Friday.

Judge Sunildatt Chakkorde took serious note of the absence of Ms. Banu and her daughter Ms. Safa for the hearing. He took the counsel of the defence to task for this.

The counsel told the court that Ms. Banu was deputed for maintaining law and order in the violence-hit area. Consequently, she could not attend the hearing.

Her daughter Ms. Safa Khan was absent for the hearing owing to health problems. The judge told the counsel to submit documents to the Court regarding the health problem.

The court posted the case for hearing for January 24.
