In a joint operation a couple of days ago, the police and forest department officials in Chintamani in Chickballapur district nabbed a couple and recovered about 250 Indian star tortoises from them.

The couple, Venkatesh (40) and his wife Yuvarajamma (36) from Sidlaghat taluk in Chickballapur district, reportedly caught the tortoises in the forest of neighbouring Andhra Pradesh and were carrying them in a bag.

Based on a clue, the Forest Department personnel in association with Chintamani town police conducted the raid and nabbed the couple in Chintamani town.
