A couple committed suicide by hanging at their residence at Koramara Street here.

The deceased have been identified as Ramesh, 45, and his wife Mookambika, 40. Their bodies were found in a decomposed condition.

The neighbours informed the police about a foul smell emanating from the house of the deceased on Sunday. The police said the couple were last seen by the neighbours on Thursday. The Tunga Nagar police have booked a case in this connection.

Cash seized

It is said that the police deputed on election duty had seized ₹2 lakh cash that was unaccounted for from Mr. Ramesh at a checkpost near New Mandli here recently.

Their relatives said the money seized was actually a loan Mr. Ramesh had borrowed to meet his personal needs and he was dejected over this.
