June 05, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 09:15 am IST - Vijayapura:

The district administration has made all arrangements for the counting for the gram panchayat elections. It begin from 8 a.m. on Friday. Addressing a press conference at Darbar High School, where the counting is held for Vijayapura taluk, Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep said that the political future of 9,101 candidates would be announced by Friday evening.

“Since ballot papers have been used in the election, the counting would take a longer time, thus we expect the final results would be out only before midnight,” he said.

He said that except Basavanabagewadi taluk, the counting will be held in three rounds in other the four taluks. Only two rounds will be conducted in Basavanabagewadi taluk. Each round may last between three and four hours, he said. The official said that the election was held for 206 GPs which have a total of 3,958 wards.

Mr. Randeep said that the district administration has deployed 1,709 officials for counting duty. They include 518 counting supervisors, 1,036 counting assistants and 155 reserved staff.

He said that inside the counting halls, only election officials and journalists have been allowed to take mobile phones. Prohibitory orders under section 144 of the IPC would remain imposed in the rural areas for two. Victory celebrations have also been banned for two days, he said.

Absent

“We had deployed nearly 5,000 employees of different departments and we have found that nearly 250 of them did not report on duty without any intimation,” said the Deputy Commissioner. Disciplinary action would be taken against these absentee officials, he said.

The trouble is apparently waiting for officials who remained absent for polling duty without intimation or without availing permission.

“We have deployed nearly 5,000 employees of different departments and we have found that nearly 250 of them did not report on duty without any intimation,” said Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep. He told press persons here on Thursday that after the counting of votes, disciplinary action would be taken against these absentee officials.
