Councillors reiterate their demand to convene CMC meeting

May 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:55 am IST - Mandya:

A few members of the Mandya City Municipal Council (CMC), who are against B. Siddaraju and Chandrakala Shivaram continuing as its president and vice-president, said they had requested the municipal Commissioner N.M. Shashikumar to convene a council meeting on May 14.

“We have decided to bring in a no-confidence motion against Mr. Siddaraju and Ms. Shivaram. Therefore, we submitted a letter to the Commissioner on Saturday, urging him to convene a meeting to discuss the issue,” a Councillor told The Hindu here on Sunday, on the condition of anonymity.

22 signatories

According to him, 22 Councillors, including a few members each from the Congress, the Janata Dal (Secular) and Independents, had signed the letter and expressed their dissatisfaction over the style of functioning of Mr. Siddaraju and Ms. Shivaram.

Second letter

Earlier, a similar letter had been submitted to Mr. Shashikumar on April 16.

Mr. Siddaraju, an Independent, was elected president of CMC on September 17, 2013, with the support of Housing Minister M.H. Ambareesh.

Mr. Siddaraju had been directed to step down as president after 18 months in the office.

Nevertheless, Mr. Siddaraju refused to relinquish the post, which had prompted the supporters of Mr. Ambareesh to move a no-confidence motion against him.

The Mandya CMC has 15 Congress councillors, nine from Janata Dal (Secular), one from BJP and 10 Independents.
