For reasons best known to contractors and the State government, no contractor came forward to take up the long-pending proposal for modernisation of the Central Bus Station (CBS) in the city, forcing the North West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation to re-float the tender for the second time.
Official sources at the NWKRTC Divisional Office said here on Saturday that no bids were received for its earlier tender for the construction of a modern bus station along with its sub-works in the city.
The estimated cost of the tender was approximately Rs. 30 crore.
Last date
The last date for submitting bids for the re-floated tender is December 10. Technical bids would be opened on December 12 and financial bids on December 20.
Once the bids were finalised, the time limit for completion of all works was 24 months, excluding monsoon. Sources said the project includes construction of a new modern bus station with the best of facilities for commuters and crew. The works listed under modernisation of the existing CBS spread over 3.08 acres include development of 41 bus bays, bus circulation and parking areas, control room and passenger information counter, autorickshaw and taxi parking lanes, basement parking for private vehicles, passenger entry/exit, terminal building with waiting areas, ticket/ reservation counters, cloak room, first-aid room, parcel office, waiting rooms, drinking water facility, toilets, yatri nivas for accommodation, restaurant, shops, kiosks, administrative offices, rest rooms for crew and other essential facilities.
With Belagavi now being selected under the Smart City Project, the NWKRTC is hopeful that bidders would come forward to add their bit in transformation of the CBS in Belagavi.
As of now, there are some visible improvements like bus shelters. A new exit point has been created which opens on to Fort Road.
