‘Conserve medicinal plants’

January 14, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - SIRSI:

The Western Ghats is home to thousands of invaluable medicinal plants and action should be taken to conserve them, Vrakshalasha Andolan president Anant Ashisar has said.

The Western Ghats should be declared as a ‘world medicinal plant hot spot’, he said at a workshop here recently.

Action was necessary to prevent smuggling of medicinal plants and empower the Medicinal Plants Board.

Collection of forest produce should be checked and medicinal plant nurseries should be started in all taluks, he added.
