Miffed with Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy putting on hold some appointments to boards and corporations, some Congressmen have expressed their anger to the State party leadership.

K. Sudhakar, whose name had been recommended for the State Pollution Control Board by the Congress and which has been held up, said it is now left to the party high command to look into the issue.

“The recommendations were finalised at the level of Congress president Rahul Gandhi himself. It is not a question of personal loss or gain to Sudhakar or S.T. Somashekar or Venkataramanaiah. It is a question of Congress’ pride. Despite getting 80 seats in the Assembly elections, we have to look at why we have given power to the JD(S),” he told presspersons on Monday.

Exhuding confidence that the party high command will take an appropriate decision, he said: “We cannot kneel down helplessly.”

Of the Congress’ recommendation to 19 boards and corporations, the Chief Minister issued orders on Sunday for appointment of 14 legislators as chairpersons of the boards and corporations and eight legislators as parliamentary secretaries against the party’s list of nine.

Besides, the Chief Minister has also not made any appointments to the posts of Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, Special Representative in Delhi, and Political Secretary to the Chief Minister, for which the Congress had suggested names of its legislators.

To pacify the miffed legislators, chairman of coordination committee and leader of Congress Legislature Party Siddaramaiah said he will speak to the Chief Minister. “I do not know why he has put it on hold. I will speak to him,” he told reporters in Hubbali.

Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara said the Chief Minister had not rejected any names recommended by the Congress. “I have learnt that some names have been put on hold for various reasons such as verification and to discuss with the Department Ministers before taking a decision. I will speak to him and request him to issue orders based on Congress’ recommendation,” he told presspersons. He said that while making political appointments, usually some verification is done by the Chief Minister’s Office.
