Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee vice-president H.T. Sangliana is confident of his party winning the next Assembly election in the State with an overwhelming majority.

He told presspersons at the party office here on Friday that his party would bag 90 per cent of the seats. “People are very much conscious and they know which party is good and which is bad. They are aware of the developmental works and welfare programmes that the Congress government has implemented in the current term. They have tasted its pro-people governance. I expect at least 90 percent of the seats, if not 100 per cent, for Congress in the next Assembly polls. Our party is doing good now. It will give better governance in the next term.”

Responding to a query, Mr. Sangliana said that the formation of grassroots-level party committees such as booth committees had been completed and the poll campaign had already been launched. “After the All-India Congress Committee general secretary and party in-charge for Karnataka K.C. Venugopal expressed dissatisfaction over non-formation of grassroots party committees, the issue was taken seriously and the task was completed. We are now reaching out to the people in a big way.”

Leadership issue

Mr. Sangliana said that that there was no ambiguity in the party over the leadership issue. “Mr. Siddaramaiah would lead the party in the next polls. The high command, in consultation with elected legislatures of the party, would finalise the next Chief Minister.”

Commending AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi as a man of courage, conviction and commitment, Mr. Sangliana expressed confidence that the party would make strides under Mr. Gandhi. He also praised Congress Leader in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge for his contributions to the development of Hyderabad Karnataka region, particularly Gulbarga district.
