Party plans protests across the State on Monday

Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah on Thursday said the Congress would submit a memorandum to President Ram Nath Kovind seeking dismissal of the BJP government in the State and sacking of Home Minister Amit Shah from the Union government over a statement allegedly made by Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa about the 17 disqualified MLAs and Mr. Shah’s role in their resignation.

Speaking to presspersons after a meeting here, the former Chief Minister said Mr. Yediyurappa’s statements in the video clip was a clear admission that he and the BJP central leadership masterminded and engineered the resignation and defection of 17 MLAs. It would be submitted to the President, he said.

The BJP government, which came to power through the back door, violated the 10th Scheduled of the Constitution, he said. Further, Mr. Yediyurappa confessed that he had committed crime by convincing the disqualified MLAs to resign by satisfying their demands and with allurement of power by offering Cabinet berths, Mr. Siddaramaiah said.

KPCC president Dinesh Gundu Rao said the party would hold a protest on Monday in front of Town Hall here opposing the Centre’s economic policies and bleak scenario in the employment sector. District presidents of the party too had been directed to stage protests on the same day, he said.

Noting that the Supreme Court was expected to pronounce its verdict on Friday on the petition of disqualification of 17 legislators, Mr. Rao said the bypoll strategy and candidates for seven more constituencies would be announced after the verdict.

He said the birth anniversary of country’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru would be celebrated on November 14 in a unique way.
