Former Minister Tanveer Sait, Congress leader M. Lakshmana and several others staged a protest on Wednesday evening against the refusal by authorities to allow Tipu Jayanti celebrations at Bal Bhavan in Bannimantap as a private event.

Mr. Sait had written a letter to Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) seeking permission to hold the celebrations at Bal Bhavan on November 10. Though the event was to be held without government involvement, MUDA refused permission.

“The MUDA gives the venue on rent for various events. Why not Tipu Jayanti?” said Mr. Lakshmana.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G. Sankar and MUDA Commissioner Kantharaj met the protesters and asked them to end the protest. Mr. Sankar sought time till noon on Thursday to take a decision.
