November 02, 2019 10:53 pm | Updated 10:53 pm IST - Shivamogga

To create awareness among the people on the alleged mismanagement of the economy by the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government in the Centre, the Shivamogga District Congress Committee (SDCC) has organised ‘Chaitanya Samavesha’ at Gayatri Mangalya Mandir in the city on November 5.

H.S. Sundaresh, president of SDCC, said at a press conference here on Saturday that Siddaramaiah, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, and Dinesh Gundu Rao, president of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, will take part in the convention. The event will commence at 10 a.m.

He said that the members of urban local bodies, Zilla Panchayat and Taluk Panchayats in Shivamogga district belonging to the Congress party and the functionaries of SDCC will take part in the convention. Mr. Siddaramaiah and Mr. Rao will speak on the ‘flawed’ economic policies of the Centre including demonetisation and rolling out of Goods and Services Tax in haste owing to which the common people had to face hardships.

The detrimental effects of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) pact on the agriculture sector would also be discussed.

‘Insensitive’

Alleging that the BJP government in the State has failed to manage relief works in the areas affected by floods in a proper manner, he said K.S. Eshwarappa, Minister in charge of Shivamogga district, has not bothered to visit the villages where the farmers have incurred heavy loss owing to copious rain in the month of October. The State government has become insensitive to the plight of the flood victims, he added.
