Meera Saxena, Chairperson of State Human Rights Commission, on Friday expressed her concern on increasing intolerance and “moral policing” in the undivided Dakshina Kannada district.
She was speaking after inaugurating workshop on human rights organized by the district unit of Indian Human Rights Panel here.
Ms. Saxena said the undivided Dakshina Kannada district was known for its high literacy. But there was a rise in the cases of communal disharmony and also “moral policing”. Such intolerance was a cause for concern. There should be more peace and harmony, where there were more educated and literate people, she said.
Robert D’Souza, President of national unit of IHRP, Srinivas Gowda, President of State unit, Sridhar D. Shenav, District Lions Governor, Prakash Kanive, Principal of Vaikunta Baliga College of Law, and others were present.
