‘Concentrate on skill-based education’

As there is a lot of difference between the syllabus taught in colleges and the skills required by companies to compete in the market, steps should be taken to change the education system, Davangere University Vice-Chancellor B.B. Kalival has said.

Speaking after inaugurating the activities of the National Service Scheme at Bapuji Institute of Engineering and Technology here on Saturday, he said that the university had started concentrating on providing skills to students to perform better in their career.

The university was also planning to start skill development courses, he said.

The students should also start studying about the latest developments in science and technology as there was the rate of unemployment in the country was high owing to lack of proper knowledge and skills.

Most of the developed countries in the world were successful in achieving economic growth owing to proper use of science and technology, he added.
