Compensation sought for farmers

The Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha has demanded compensation of ₹ one lakh per acre to the farmers who have lost their crops due to release of KC Valley water without clearing the encroachments on rajakaluves.

Water gushed into the fields due to lack of rajakaluves, causing heavy damage to the crops in the fields, KRRS State vice-president K. Narayana Gowda said during a protest at Narasapur on Monday.

Rajakaluves should be maintained properly after eviction of encroachments and only then water should be released to tanks in the district, he said.

The authorities should have created awareness among the people before filling the tanks, the outfit opined in a memorandum submitted to the Revenue Inspector.
