Common building bylaws for all ULBs

January 31, 2019 09:18 pm | Updated 09:19 pm IST - BENGALURU

For regulating construction of buildings and to ensure orderly development of urban areas, the government has made common building bylaws applicable to all 275 urban local bodies, including city corporations, across the State.

In view of the emerging issues such as environmental concerns, technological developments, sanitation, conservation of heritages, tapping solar energy, barrier of free environment for the disabled, children and old people, Urban Development Minister U.T. Khader said uniform bylaws have been made applicable to all ULBs.

He told presspersons here on Thursday that the common building bylaws have been formed based on the Union government’s building bylaws of 2016.

The common bylaws are meant to streamline issues related to building licence, building approval plans, occupancy certificate, high rise buildings, heritage buildings, and so on. ULBs would implement bylaws after they have been approved in their general body meetings, he said.

Mr. Khader said henceforth, there was no necessity for obtaining licence from ULBs for establishing rooftop solar panels in buildings.
