Water Resources Minister D.K. Shivakumar has said that the coalition government is committed to implementing the Mekedatu multi-purpose project across the Cauvery to supply drinking water to Bengaluru and Ramanagaram districts and also generate power.

He was addressing a gathering after unfurling the national flag during the Republic Day celebrations at the district stadium in Ramanagaram town on Saturday.

The government will initiate measures to supply drinking water to villages and fill lakes at a cost of at least ₹596 crore, he said.

According to Mr. Shivakumar, water will be supplied to 115 villages through the Iggaluru barrage, water will be filled in the Kanva dam, and lakes around Sathanur, Kailancha, Garalapura, Narayanapura, and other villages will be filled in the coming days.

Importantly, the Kanva left bank and right bank canals, canals of Arkavathy, and Manchanabele and Iggaluru barrage projects will be modernised.
