CM’s village stay should have sole agenda of development: Guttedar

‘Grama Vaastavya has rekindled hope among residents of villages’

Ahead of Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy’s village stay programme at a government school in Herur (B) village of Afzalpur taluk, scheduled on June 22, former minister and BJP leader Mallikayya Guttedar has urged the State government and the district authorities to tackle the water crisis in drought-hit areas.

Addressing presspersons here on Tuesday, Mr. Guttedar said Mr. Kumaraswamy’s village stay programme to interact with local residents should have a sole agenda of development of the village and effective implementation of projects related to roads, drinking water, irrigation, power and expansion of educational and health institutions.

Mr. Kumaraswamy, during his previous tenure in office in 2006, had promised to develop Mannur village in Afzalpur taluk where he stayed overnight. Even after 13 years, the village remains untouched by any kind of development, he said.

He said the Chief Minister was working under pressure owing to interference from the Congress leaders. “I wonder if Mr. Kumaraswamy relaunched his village stay programme just to stay away from the Congress leaders, as he had already expressed that he was facing humiliation from them,” Mr. Guttedar said.

Mr. Kumaraswamy’s village stay at Herur (B) has rekindled hope among the residents of the village and its adjoining places for systematic development of the taluk. Mr. Guttedar hoped the taluk would make steady progress on all fronts after the Chief Minister’s stay.
